Storytelling Work

Storytelling and solo performance work

Art in Action Storytelling pitch
During training we were tasked with a research project based on any historical character. I picked a hero of mine, Abraham Lincoln, presenting it from the perspective of his wife Mary Todd Lincoln, which gave me the opportunity to present his character very personally. As my mum is from Illinois, I've been very familiar with him my whole life as a face on licence plates and went down to Springfield, Illinois in 2011 to see the Lincoln cabin/homestead/court house/State Capital/museum/tomb and felt hugely attached to him.  This was my opportunity to share a real hero with an English audience and I went to town with it. The project had to be 20 minutes, but it could have easily been an hour and I was hugely proud with what I acheived.   This document is some of my research and part of a draft.
These photos all featured as part of my performance. I was a little surprised how much they could draw the audience in - I particularly liked a 'Aww, bless. His little face' about Eddie's picture and the slightly shocked approval at the claim that 'Wasn't he [Lincoln] ugly?' whilst showing the young Lincoln picture. I personally always found the only picture of Mary Todd Lincoln incredibly sad. Sends a shiver up my spine every time I look at it.
This was my final storytelling project from Drama Studio London. We had to write our own original story and tell it. The stories were then taken by other students and performed in any chosen way. This story was based on an obscure fact that I came across during my history degree in York whilst doing a witchcraze module. It immediately captured my interest and started growing into a story. The task gave me the opportunity to write it down and get immediate feedback. I was really chuffed how well it went down and got a lot of confidence from it in my own writing and ideas.
This was a storytelling task from training at Drama Studio London, telling the story of Cordelia Flyte from 'Brideshead Revisited'. This was a performance I really enjoyed, was proud of and would like to develop further. I thought Cordelia was a wonderful character to perform.
